Oh my God, I’m such an idiot!

I have the worst luck.

Nothing ever goes right.

Why do I always pick the wrong guy (or girl)

Things are going too good, somethings going to go wrong.

Any of this sound familiar? Do you say these things? That’s your self talk. It’s what you tell yourself on a regular basis. I’m not talking about an occasional thought. When things go right or good things happen what do you tell yourself? Is it “I got lucky” or “I deserved what happened because I worked at it and made it happen.”

I believe you make your own luck by not only your actions but your thoughts too. Negative self talk is a habit. It may have started because of what others have told you, your parents, other family members, friends or co-workers. If you do or think the same thing over and over it becomes a habit. You can’t just get rid of habits you need to replace the bad habit with a good habit.

In the beginning telling yourself “I have the best luck” instead of “I have the worst luck” is going to feel like a lie. That’s your sub conscience taking this new talk and comparing to the talk that’s been ingrained and saying “Ah, I don’t think so.” Don’t listen, your sub conscience only knows what you’ve been feeding it.

A new habit takes about 21 days to set in no matter what the new habit is. I remember trying to make a habit of putting my keys on the little hook on the wall instead of throwing them anywhere. You’d think I was trying to learn how to perform brain surgery. Here’s another thing about new habits, you need to consistenly do them over the long haul.

Do I occasionally throw my keys on the table, ah yes. Do I stress out about it, no. Just pick them up and put them on the hook when I realize what I did. Positive self talk is the same if you fall back into negative self talk just get over it and get back into the groove. Remember you don’t get what you want you get what you expect.

It’s okay to be down BUT…

Okay I spent a good portion of my day in a funk. It happens to everyone even the people who seem to have Everything. We’re human after all. Some times there’s a reason some times not, it just a funk.

Here’s the important part-if you find yourself in a funk just let yourself be in a funk for a while and  then JUST GET OVER IT!! Whether you do it by talking yourself back on track, listen to music, read a good book or whatever.  If you need some one to kick you in the butt then let them.

Today I just decided enough was enough and got to doing what I needed to do. Whenever this happens to you don’t keep kicking yourself just let it go and move on. By the way it was just one of those for no particular reasons funks today. I’m over it.

Take Daily Care

I got home from work last night tired, aggravated and less than optimistic. I work as a waitress in the evening (so some of you know where I’m coming from). I sat down at my computer to do some work and noticed the plant on my desk was drooping half way down.

Apparently I’d forgotten to water it for a while. I did water it and today it looks much better. Plants need daily care, some light, some water and sometimes nutrients. We are much the same. Unless you’re one of those naturally happy, optimistic, positive people (yes they do exist) you need daily care too.

Staying in a positive mindset takes daily action. For some like me reading every day from a personal development book helps, others like to listen to audios or meditate. You could talk to some one who makes you laugh, listen to music. Every one’s different. Do what you enjoy. Personal development is an ongoing process.

We’re exposed to negative influences all the time and we need to turn those bad days or moments around and recharge. Don’t forget to take daily care of your attitude and spirit.
